The 10th Annual Boston Harbor Striper Shootout will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008. This charitable event, which raises money for The Chelsea Soldiers Home, has become a spring tradition for local striper fishermen. Running from 5 am to 5 pm, with the fishing area extending from Cape Ann to Situate, the Shootout attracts over 50 boats each year whose crews compete for the $5,000 first place cash award plus nine other top-finisher prizes. Last year there were 30 stripers caught that measured over 40 inches long. Team Osprey, with their 46-inch striped bass, walked away with the top prize money for the second year in a row.
Always an exciting tournament, the Shootout starts begins at 6 pm Friday night at Admiral’s Hill Marina with a captain’s meeting and dinner, and concludes Saturday night with an awards BBQ. A joint effort by famed local fisherman Pete Santini and Jim Jadul of Admiral’s Hill Marina, Chelsea, the event has raised over $3,000 to benefit the 130- bed war veterans hospital in Chelsea. Last year Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs joined Santini and fishing magazine editor and writer Barry Gibson on Capt. Chuck DiStefano’s Skip-A-Dory, and Dave Sloan of “On the Hook” filmed segments for his television show.
